If FPL is your utility

• FPL requires you to apply as a net metering customer before installing; FPL then replaces your meter with one that measures excess power sent to the grid. Excess energy is deducted from your monthly bill or credited toward a future bill within the same calendar year. FPL also offers SolarTogether, a subscription option with monthly bill credits and no panel installation. Source: https://www.fpl.com/clean-energy/net-metering.html (accessed 2026-10-20)
• FPL's net-metering tariff carries excess kWh credits forward for up to 12 months. In the last billing cycle of each calendar year, unused credits are paid at an average annual rate based on FPL's COG-1 As-Available Energy Tariff, and the same applies if you close your account. A note on the federal tax credit

The federal residential clean energy credit (25D) doesn't apply to expenditures made after December 31, 2025. The IRS treats an expenditure as made when installation is completed.
