Privacy Policy
DRAFT, NOT LEGAL ADVICE. Must be reviewed by counsel before launch. Effective date: October 20, 2026 | Last updated: October 20, 2026
[LLC LEGAL NAME] d/b/a SolarMatchup ("SolarMatchup," "we," "us," or "our") operates solarmatchup.com (the "Site"). This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, who we sell or disclose it to, and the choices and rights you have. Important: our business is connecting homeowners with solar installers, and installers pay us for those connections. Each request is exclusive: when we match you with an installer, we sell your request to that one installer only, and we never resell it to anyone else.
1. Information we collect
| Category | Examples | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Identifiers | Name, phone number, email address, postal address, IP address, device identifiers, cookie IDs, consent certificate IDs | You; your device |
| Property and energy information | Homeownership status, roof shade, average electric bill, self-reported credit range | You |
| Commercial information | The quote request you submit and the installer matched to it | You |
| Internet and network activity | Pages viewed, clicks, form interactions, referring URL, browser, operating system, timestamps | Your device; cookies and similar tools |
| Geolocation (approximate) | Location inferred from ZIP code or IP address | You; your device |
| Inferences | Likely eligibility for solar, installer match | Derived by us |
| Consent records | Exact consent language shown, whether the box was checked, timestamp, IP, user agent, page snapshot | Your device |
We do not ask for Social Security numbers, bank account numbers, or credit card numbers, and we do not pull credit reports. Do not submit them. We do not knowingly collect "sensitive personal information" as defined by state law.
2. How we use information
- To process your request and match you with one installer.
- To deliver your request to that installer.
- To prevent fraud, bots, and duplicate submissions.
- To document your consent and our legal compliance.
- To communicate with you about your request.
- To honor opt-out, Do Not Call, and privacy requests.
- To operate, secure, analyze, and improve the Site.
- To comply with law, enforce our Terms, and defend legal claims.
3. How we sell and disclose information
- One matched installer (sale): We sell your contact, property, and request information to exactly one installer, the installer matched to your request. If you checked the consent box, that installer may call and text you as you authorized; if you did not, we only email you that installer's contact information. Each installer's use of your information is governed by its own privacy policy. We never sell or resell your request to a second installer, and we do not sell your information to data brokers, list resellers, or other companies. Our installer partners are listed at solarmatchup.com/partners.
- Service providers: hosting, data storage, email and SMS delivery, analytics, security, and professional advisers, under contracts limiting their use of your information.
- Legal and safety: to comply with law, subpoenas, or regulators; to protect rights and safety; and to enforce our Terms.
- Business transfers: in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.
- Mobile information: We do not sell, rent, or share your mobile phone number or SMS opt-in consent with third parties or affiliates for their marketing purposes, except to the one installer named or described in our consent checkbox, who receives your consent directly from you.
4. Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies for Site functionality and analytics. We configure any advertising tools so they do not receive the name, phone, email, or address you enter in forms. We honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals as a request to opt out of sale/sharing for that browser.
5. Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information
Because we sell each request to one installer, California residents (and residents of other states with similar laws) have the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of their personal information. To opt out, email info@solarmatchup.com with the subject "Do Not Sell or Share," or use our web opt-out form. You can also enable Global Privacy Control in your browser. If you opt out before submitting a request, do not submit the quote form, because submitting it is how we deliver your request to an installer. If you opt out after submitting, we will not sell any further information about you, and we will forward your request to stop contact to the installer who received your request. You can also use our web opt-out form.
6. Your privacy choices and state privacy rights
Communications choices: reply STOP to any text; click "unsubscribe" in any email; tell any caller to stop calling; or email us at info@solarmatchup.com. To stop contact from the installer, also contact that installer directly. We will forward your request to the installer who received your information.
State privacy rights: Depending on where you live (including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas, Oregon, Montana, Delaware, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Minnesota, Maryland, Tennessee, Indiana, Kentucky, Rhode Island, Nebraska, Iowa, and other states with comprehensive privacy laws), you may have the right to: know or access the personal information we collect, use, disclose, and sell; delete it (subject to legal exceptions, for example consent and opt-out records we must keep); correct inaccurate information; opt out of the sale or sharing of your information and of targeted advertising and profiling; obtain a portable copy; appeal our decision (email info@solarmatchup.com with "Appeal" in the subject; if we deny your appeal you may contact your state Attorney General); and not be discriminated against for exercising your rights.
How to exercise your rights: use the Do Not Sell or Share options above, or email info@solarmatchup.com. We will verify your request by matching information you give us to our records. You may use an authorized agent, and we may ask for proof of authorization. We respond within the time required by law (generally 45 days, extendable once).
California notice at collection and disclosures: In the past 12 months, we collected the categories in Section 1 from the sources listed, for the purposes in Section 2. We sold identifiers, commercial information, property/energy information, and approximate geolocation, each request to one solar installer only. We disclosed all categories to service providers for business purposes. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16. Retention: we keep lead and consent records for 5 years from collection to comply with federal telemarketing recordkeeping rules and to defend legal claims, and privacy-request records for at least 24 months; we then delete or de-identify them. Shine the Light: California residents may request information about disclosures for direct marketing at info@solarmatchup.com.
7. Data security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards, including encryption in transit and access controls. No system is 100% secure.
8. Children
The Site is for adults (18+) who own or are authorized to make decisions about a residential property. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13 or sell information of anyone under 16.
9. Changes
We will post changes here and update the "Last updated" date. Changes do not apply retroactively to consent you already gave.
